ACROSS THE WORLD starts April 12

Six works that engage with the experience of the British Empire, represented in India, Africa, and the Caribbean: The Story of An African Farm, Wide Sargasso Sea, Season of Migration to the North, The God of Small Things, The Inheritance of Loss, and Island Beneath the Sea (we read in that order).

Second Sunday of the month, for 6 months

About the event

The Nerdy Professor chose these novels because each depicts experiences living in the shadow of British imperialism, one of the most significant geographical, cultural, and economic forces in human history. Come to each meeting having read that month's novel and the Nerdy Professor will provide historical context, explain some of the key literary strategies the author uses, and lead conversation with participants, always leaving plenty of time for questions.
